Increasing members' voice

As members of Local 768, DC37, we have written four proposals to increase members' voice in the decisions that affect us, and rebuild a stronger union in the process. You can view the full proposals here. Briefly, the proposals are to:

- Allow members to establish title-based Chapters

- Allow Local union meetings (including Chapters) to be held via phone or video conference

- Require Local to solicit proposals from members (and especially Chapters) prior to any contract negotiations, put proposals to a vote, provide substantive updates on negotiations and recommend open bargaining

- Require Local to hire an independent Parliamentarian to help ensure democratic procedure during meetings

Would you be willing to sign a petition requesting a special union meeting to formally discuss and vote on these motions?

The constitution of Local 768, DC37 allows for members to request a special membership meeting (Article V, Section 2), and can set the agenda for such a meeting. We are planning to do this so that these motions are given the attention they deserve, rather than rushed at the end of another meeting.
